It is a beautiful time of year in middle Tennessee and a great time to tackle home improvement projects that can help protect your home.

  • Sprinkler system maintenance and repairs – Configure the sprinkler heads to keep spray at least a foot from foundation walls. Repair any leaks, reducing water bill and preventing damage to foundation or lawn.
  • Clean and inspect gutter system – Remove any debris from gutters, inspect for leaks and ensure that downspouts and splashguards are diverting the water at least 2 feet from foundation wall.
  • Windows and Doors – Inspect windows for moisture between glass panes or rotten wood. Inspect door seals for damage. Repair or replace damaged / old door seals or windows, reducing energy costs and preventing water intrusion.
  • Rotten wood – Inspect decks, porches and external trim for rotten wood. Replace or repair the effected wood, preventing further damage to home.
  • Check your moisture content in crawlspace – Buy an inexpensive moisture meter and check the moisture level in crawlspace. It should be between 10% to 16%, to prevent mold and decay.
  • Replace your HVAC filters – Set your reminders to inspect and replace monthly to keep HVAC system functioning properly.
